Sidney Goossens

Dr. Ir. Sidney Goossens is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Photonics and Applied Physics (TONA) of the Faculty of Engineering (IR) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is part of the Brussels Photonics research group B-PHOT, where his main research interests are Optical Fibre Sensors (OFS). His research focusses on fibre Bragg grating-based sensors for structural health monitoring (SHM) on composite aerospace structures. With his work, Sidney hopes to contribute to developing lighter, stronger and smarter materials for aerospace applications in order to reduce maintenance cost, fuel consumption and pollution of future aircrafts.
