Jasper Van Hoorick wins Trainee Merit Award at World Biomaterials Congress

On the 10th World Biomaterials Congress in Montreal, PhD candidate Jasper Van Hoorick won a WBC Trainee Merit award. He received the award for his research in the development of new biocompatible gelatin derivatives that enable improved handling via two-photon polymerization. This laser based, high-resolution 3D printing technique allows the creation of microstructures to below the order of magnitude of cells.

Within his doctorate he explores the development of a membrane that enables a treatment for age-related blindness and macular degeneration. The need for treatments in this area is extremely high, as this condition is the leading cause of visually impairment in the Western world. 

The presented work is part of his doctoral research for which he received a FWO (Flanders Scientific Research) grant early this year. The abstract of the submitted work is available via the following link:
