The title of his PhD is: “Advancing 3D projection displays: toward compactness, high efficiency and autostereoscopic visualization” (promoters: prof. dr. ir. Hugo Thienpont and dr. Youri Meuret).
In this work, state-of-the-art illumination and modulation technology is used to investigate, design and demonstrate original systems that further advance 3D projection displays. This includes a compact stereoscopic projection system that more efficiently uses the light output of the projector to generate the different images for the left and right eye. Also, autostereoscopic 3D technologies are considered. A cutting-edge multiview display is developed that enables looking around the 3D objects without special eyeglasses! This projection display only requires a single projector, which highlights its potential for compact, low-cost and immersive 3D viewing.
