The power of photonics highlighted at Day of Science

November 26, 2016 at 21:41

The Day of Science, Dag van de Wetenschap in Dutch, is a yearly event that allows young and old to get in touch with different sciences and their applications. With this initiative from the Flemish Government, over 100 research groups including B-PHOT have the opportunity to explain complex science and technology in a comprehensible way.

We take 'getting in touch' literally and will inspire visitors with different hands-on experiments. How does an infrared camera work? Curious about how to create new colours by mixing light sources? Learn about polarisation and interference of light. Or discover your talents as a light painter in our dark room.

Photonics, the science and technology of light, affects many aspects of our lives. It enables for example green energy with solar panels and low energy consumption with smart LED lights, faster cancer diagnosis with light-guided biopsy needles, and optical sensors for self-driven cars in smart cities. Did you know light technology can make internet so much faster with Lifi replacing Wifi?

The B-PHOT team invites you to visit our booth on VUB Brussels Health Campus in Jette, on Sunday 27 November 2017 from 10:00 to 17:00.
