A brighter, lighter and healthier world

This programme contains a compulsory mobility track, allowing you to study abroad and benefit from the expertise in our partner universities. Depending on your own preferences, you can choose the extent of your stay abroad. You can take courses or do your master thesis abroad. Alternatively, you can do both thesis and courses abroad, or go for a 12-week internship in the photonics industry or a research institute. The compulsory mobility track takes place in the second year of the master.

For example: you are registered for the European Master of Science in Photonics, either at VUB or UGent. In your second master year, you can chose to take courses at a partner institution abroad. Your master thesis is then done at either VUB or UGent. Or, you take your courses at VUB or UGent and attend a partner university abroad for your thesis. Alternatively, you can opt to do both the course package and  your thesis at a partner institution abroad.

If you do not wish to go abroad for a whole semester or longer, you can also take a 12-week international internship at a company or research institute.
