15 secondary school teachers in Belgium have received their own Photonics Explorer kit during the teacher training recently, with the support of Hamamatsu Belgium.
Photonics Explorer is a lab-in-a-box designed to stimulate students of the 2nd and 3rd grade to experiment in class with lasers, LEDs, lenses, optical fibers, and other high-tech components. Teachers can use this educational kit, developed by VUB B-PHOT Brussels Photonics team, to make the different properties of light and photons more tangible in their courses.
Participating teachers reacted very positively, one teacher from Koninklijk Atheneum D'HEK in Landen (BE) stated: “I’m looking forward to use the Photonics Explorer during my lessons, this will be a really helpful tool for the students to explore certain concepts of physics. ”
Hamamatsu is an important Silver Sponsor of the Photonics Explorer Programme. The company contributes to the training and distribution of 79 Photonics Explorer kits worldwide: 50 kits in the US, 12 in the UK, 2 in Sweden and 15 in Belgium. With the support of Hamamatsu, at least 4000 students every year will get introduced to the opportunities and benefits photonics offer.
