The European PHOSFOS project coordinated by B-PHOT has been selected as one of the 50 projects out of 450 submissions to demonstrate its results during the European Commission's Innovation Convention 2011 (5-6 December 2011, Square - Brussels Meeting Centre). The title of the stand is "Light feels pressure ".
We will demonstrate a new method to measure pressure by using light guided within optical fibres. The new mechanism will be applied to monitor downhole pressure in the field of oil and gas exploration and will improve the efficiency and safety of oil well exploitation. A similar optical fibre based sensor will also be used in the field of healthcare to detect gastro-intestinal disorders by measuring the pressure exerted down the oesophagus during swallowing. The method offers comfort to the patient and relies on a low-cost measurement system. Come visit our stand number 35 to see both sensor systems in operation.
