A research team of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, coordinated by Prof. Karin Nys and composed of scientists and engineers from 4 research groups out of three faculties (MARI (LW), B-PHOT (IR), SURF (IR) and GEOL (WE)) will team up in the European project 'NARNIA' (New Archaeological Research Network for Integrating Approaches to Ancient Material Studies). Eight European institutes and one partner from Jordan will collaborate to better document the archaeological and historical knowledge of the Eastern Meditteranean region through in-depth material analysis of archeological findings. B-Phot’s post-doc Ir. Wendy Meulebroeck supports this multidisciplinary team with her expertise in optical glass characterization. NARNIA was granted under the Marie-Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2010-ITN program, where it was ranked as number one during the project evaluations.
