In the recently published list of granted fellowships of the FWO (Flemish Research Foundation), Dr. Ir. Jürgen Van Erps from the Brussels Photonics Team was officially awarded with a renewal of his 'FWO Postdoctoraal Onderzoeker' (Post-doctoral researcher) fellowship for the next 3 years. In total there were 75 laureates spread over all universities and research disciplines in Flanders who received a first renewal of their FWO PostDoc mandate this year. The research project that Jürgen Van Erps will be focusing on in the coming years is entitled “Mass-deployable photonics-enhanced polymer lab-on-a-chip devices for disruptive biosensing”. This project will be carried out in collaboration with national and international top-level research groups, and could yield important breakthroughs in the applicability of labs-on-chips by transforming them from laboratory curiosities into ubiquitous real-time biosensors, to be used in situ by everybody.
