Successful Photonics Networking Event for students and industry at VUB

On 14 December 2011 the Photonics Networking Event, organized by the SPIE Brussels Student Chapter and the Programme Board of the Masters Photonics VUB-UGent, took place in the incubation center ICAB of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. This annual event is a meeting place for photonics companies and master students in photonics from the interuniversity Master in Photonics programme of VUB and UGent. This year more than 80 students had the opportunity to meet with the representatives of 12 prominent photonic companies.

Invited talks were presented by Christiaan Fivez (BEST) and Stefano Beri (TE Connectivity) . As key-note speakers they highlighted their companies’ photonics businesses as well as the enabling role photonics plays in the innovation of their core products. Next, the CTO’s of KLA Tencor , CN ROOD , AGFA , CMOSIS , Caliopa , Umicore , Altran , Xenics , Avantes and Melexis took the opportunity to trigger the public during three minutes “elevator pitches”.

The talks were followed by a break-out session and a reception, where students and company representatives had the opportunity to network and discuss the opportunity for future employment.
