The successful launch event of the ‘Photonics Explorer’ at TE Connectivity, Kessel-Lo brought together the different stakeholders of the Photonics Explorer program. Teachers, representatives of the Flemisch Government, EU representatives, companies, engineering associations and stakeholders in educations all enthusiastically welcomed the Photonics Explorer.
In her speech Vice-President Minister Ingrid Lieten congratulated the Brussels Photonics Team for initiating this project. Werner De Wolf Vice-president and General Manager EMEA of TE Connectivity explained why sponsoring 100 kits was a no-brainer for TE Connectivity . Dr. Ronan Burgess, deputy head of the Photonics Unit of the EU emphasized how important photonics is for Europe. Amrita Prasad , CEO of EYESTvzw revealed the ambitious goal to reach more than 2,5 million students in the next three years with the Photonics Explorer program. Sonja Haesen concluded that the creation of EYEST vzw and "Close the Gap" are two great examples of companies, created by VUB, that target "social innovation".
The more than 30 teachers, who followed a training that same afternoon, received a Photonics Explorer kit after the ceremony.

The Photonics Explorer educational kit was officially launched at an event held jointly by the Brussels Photonics Team and TE Connectivity. Over 30 secondary school teachers from schools in Flanders, Belgium participated in a teacher training course and received their Photonics Explorer kit sponsored by TE Connectivity.
