At the 28th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) in Athens, Jasper presented his work on "Gelatin Functionalization Strategies Enhance Biofabrication Versatility on the Micro and Macro-Scale."
He works on the development of new polymer materials for regenerative medicine purposes. For his joint PhD at PBM UGent and VUB B-PHOT Photonics, he is researching opportunities to develop a novel implant that treats ocular conditions.
During the ESB conference Jasper presented a range of gelatin derivatisation strategies which enable efficient processing via 3D printing, including two photon polymerization for regenerative medicine purposes.
Two photon polymerization is a high-resolution laser based 3D printing technique. By chemically modifying the gelatins, the processing performance of the materials was drastically improved while maintaining the desired biological activity.
The Award Committee rewarded the scientific excellence of Jasper Van Hoorick with the Biointerphases poster award.
