Novel optical architectures for LCOS projection systems.

In this research project we want to investigate novel optical architectures for LCOS projection displays which use LED s as light sources. These architectures will no longer use a white light source which is splitted in the three primary colors, but will start immediately with three quasi-monochromatic light sources. To guarantee a sufficient light output, it will be necessary to use arrays of LED s. It is the intention to build a LED based LCOS demonstrator at the end of this project.

To achieve these scientific goals, the expertise of the department of Applied Physics and Photonics (TONA) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel with ray-trace simulations and micro optics, and the expertise of the department TFCG Microsystems Lab at the Ghent University with LCOS microdisplays, will be combined.
