Novel Techniques in High Speed 2D Laser Scanning Inspection Systems

This industrial related research project concerns the collaboration between the Flemish company Barco (Barco MachineVision) and the Department of Applied Physics and Photonics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Prof. H. Thienpont, J. Cuypers, T. Nasilowski and W. Meulebroeck) and is concentrated on the study of optical sorting machines for the food processing industry. This project contains two parts. In a first part we will concentrate on the study of the use of fluorescence as sorting principle (which products can be sorted with this interaction phenomenon, what is the optimum laser wavelength and power, ). In a second part we will investigate how standard optical fibers can be implemented on the detection side of the machines. This project is funded by het Instituut voor de aanmoediging van Innovatie door Wetenschap en Technologie in Vlaanderen (IWT).
