Novel projection technologies for Electronic Cinema.

The aim of this IWT project is the creation of a new technology platform within BARCO for the development of Electronic Cinema projection systems. We will investigate several novel technologies (DLP architectures, efficient collection systems for Xenon lamps, laser illumination,) which have the potential of being used for digital projectors with a high light output and an excellent image quality.

The department of Applied Physics and Photonics (TONA) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is within this project responsible for the investigation of the Grating Light Valve (GLV) technology in combination with laser illumination. It is our purpose to investigate the different components and subsystems in detail with the aim of building a demonstrator to characterise experimentally the most important optical specifications.
