Optical spectroscopy

Our research focuses on the use of absorption, fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy in a variety of application domains from the measurement of the quality of food (vegetables and fruits), the quality of lubricant oils, the sorting of recycled plastics, the investigation of archaeological glasses and of restorations of old paintings to the authentication of historic stained glass windows. The latter activity is in close collaboration with the SKAR/MARI Art Sciences and Archaeology group and the MACH/SURF Materials and Chemistry group of the VUB. The team aims at developing hand-held, low-cost instrumentation for these and other applications to allow trained people to perform in-situ measurements.
