Rector Prof. Caroline Pauwels and her team of vice-rectors visit the Photonics VUB Campus in Gooik to get acquainted with the campus buildings, the research infrastructure, and the research topics.
During a tour of the laboratory and cleanroom facilities several demonstrations provided them with a clearer picture of what opportunities photonics and VUB’s photonics center holds for industrial and societal innovation.
The photonics center will expand this year to accommodate new large-scale equipment and to provide office space for twenty additional researchers. After the completion of the construction works in early 2018, a grand opening is planned for the general public.
The Photonics Innovation Center, opened in 2013, is now formally a new university campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. B-PHOT Brussels Photonics team is very excited about the visit of the Rector and the plans for extending the facilities. Hugo Thienpont, director of B-PHOT and Vice Rector for Innovation and Valorisation: "We are really pleased with the interest of the rector and her team in our project. With their support we can further develop the Photonics Innovation Center into a fully-fledged campus for interdisciplinary research."
