With an education in physics, Fabian Duerr received his Diplom (German M.Sc. equivalent) with majors in particle physics and partial differential equations from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany in 2008. He joined B-PHOT in 2009, where he obtained his PhD in Applied Sciences in 2013.
As a post-doctoral research fellow of FWO-Vlaanderen, he is responsible for the optical design and modelling platform at B-PHOT where he leads a research group which explores the potential of free-form optical design for solar concentration, refractive laser beam shaping and imaging systems. His experience includes responsibilities in research, teaching, supervision, collaboration in projects and consulting for industry.
