Thomas Geernaert

Prof. Dr Ir. Thomas Geernaert graduated as an Electrotechnical Engineer with majors in Photonics in 2006 and obtained his PhD in Engineering in 2011, both at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Thomas was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering of VUB and he collaborated with Flemish and European top research-groups on optical fibres and optical fibre sensors and takes leading roles in fundamental and applied research projects as well as industrial collaborations. He is co-inventor of 5 patents, some of which are licensed to companies or jointly exploited with industry.

In 2022, Thomas joined the Flemish Advisory Council for Innovation and Enterprise (VARIO).
