Olga Rusyakina successfully defends PhD research thesis
Olga Rusyakina has successfully defended her PhD research thesis entitled 'Photonic crystal fiber with cascaded fiber Bragg gratings for plasmonic refractometry and biosensing' in a public session on December 4th, 2023.
Olga started her PhD at B-PHOT in 2018 within the EOS project 'CHARMING' (Carbon nanomaterial enHanced opticAl fibeRs for bioMedical Imaging and sensiNG) that focused on the development of fiber optics-based solutions for cancer detection.
The PhD was carried out in a co-tutelle programme between Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Université de Mons (UMONS) under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Geernaert (VUB), Prof. Tigran Baghdasaryan (VUB), Prof. Francis Berghmans (VUB), and Prof. Christophe Caucheteur (UMONS).
"I am grateful to have completed this multidisciplinary PhD with great support from experts in their fields", says Olga. "I have learnt a lot during this journey. It was an exciting and definitely a rewarding experience. Best of luck to the future work of both universities in bringing the fiber technology to the next level!"
