Maria Lopera
Maria Lopera is a PhD student at B-PHOT Brussels Photonics under the supervision of Prof. Heidi Ottevaere engaged in a collaborative project with EAFIT University in Colombia. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, she further pursued her academic journey with a Master in Applied Physics, during which she enriched her knowledge as an exchange student at the Master of Science in Photonics Engineering at VUB. Under the esteemed guidance of Prof. Heidi Ottevaere, Prof. Yunfeng Nie (VUB) and Prof. Carlos Trujillo (EAFIT), Maria's research focuses on lens-free microscopy for the detection of micro-contaminants and monitoring water quality.
Maria's vibrant enthusiasm and creative spirit define her both in and out of her academic pursuits. She finds solace in practising yoga, finds joy in music, and holds a special place in her heart for feline companions, all of which paint a picture of her dynamic personality. Her drive to contribute to a healthier world and enhance our daily lives underscores her commitment to making a positive impact on society.
