Samin Samadi

PhD student

Samin Samadi is a PhD researcher at VUB B-PHOT Brussels Photonics, working under the supervision of Prof. Heidi Ottevaere and Prof. Lien Smeesters. She joined the team in October 2026 as part of the GRADED project, where her research focuses on developing multi-modal spectral sensors for additive manufacturing. Her work aims to enable real-time, in-situ sensing using techniques such as LIBS and Raman spectroscopy to monitor and optimise the manufacturing of functionally graded materials (FGMs).

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, with a specialisation in Microwave and Photonics.

Samin has been fascinated by the night sky since she was a kid. That interest naturally drew her toward astronomy, optics, and light & matter, so choosing photonics felt like the next natural step! Outside the lab, she enjoys playing the piano, listening to music, dancing, reading, and doing sports.
