Sara Abbasi

Sara Abbasi (15/01/1995) is a postdoctoral researcher at B‑PHOT Brussels Photonics, working under the supervision of Prof. Heidi Ottevaere. In November 2025, she obtained her PhD at VUB on Photonics‑Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy for the Identification of Hemoglobin Fractions, conducted within the VortexLC project. Her research focuses on developing compact optofluidic and SERS‑based Raman detection systems for point‑of‑care hemoglobin analysis and diabetes diagnostics. Sara is also passionate about science communication and outreach, actively contributing to initiatives that promote photonics education and engage wider audiences.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics (optics and lasers) from Shiraz University and an MSc in Nanotechnology Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome. Sara joined B-PHOT in July 2021 as a PhD researcher and continues her work at the group as a postdoctoral researcher.
