B-PHOT’s Metasurfaces Recognized as Highlight by OPTICA in Optics in 2024

26.02.2025

Koen Vanmol and his B-PHOT colleagues demonstrated in their Optics Express paper that the two-photon-polymerization technique or 2PP has become a reliable and fast prototyping technology that enables in-situ printing of high-quality 3D nanostructures and as such allows the fabrication of high-performance metasurfaces.

The subwavelength features of these metasurfaces have the ability to enhance light–matter interaction and could lead to advanced functionalities in optical measurement systems or leverage existing optical interconnect and imaging application systems. Their work is currently being highlighted in the Optics in 2024 special issue of the OPTICA magazine Optics & Photonics News, showcasing various high-resolution meta-lenses that were printed directly onto the tip of an optical fiber. Design, fabrication, and testing are highlighted and their optical performance compared to traditional lenses.
